KRAKATAU HISTORY
" DOOMS DAY 1883 "

On Sunday August 27^th 1883 at 10.05. The Sound of Krakatau explosion in 1883. It’s heard in Srilangka, India, Karachi, Australia (Perth), Madagascar island, and reach 3000 miles a way to the Indian Ocean.

Krakatau tossed  18-20 cubic kilometer material of earth 30 km high in to the atmosphere, the heavy material back to the earth but the soft material and particles gas and ash rise up to the atmosphere and  covering the atmosphere caused radiation of the sun back to the space. The volcanic gas and ash was circling and traveling around the globe 7 times for 4 days - caused blood red color, orange and  fantastic colored sunset, blue moon can be seen for 4 – 5  years (1883 – 1888). Caused disturbances of radio communication all round the globe for 3 day.

The giant tsunami about 30 - 40 meter high and the speed reach about 180 km/h.  It destroyed more than 270 villages around Java and Sumatra and more than 36.000 people died by tsunami and most the kids was killed by the volcanic gas. On Sunday August 27^th 1883 at 10.05 am the sky was changed suddenly dark and the lighting blasted, rained by black sand, ash and dust. In the distance could be seen the thousands of flame rock flied tossed to the atmosphere from Krakatau, the local peoples said that was dooms day “ KIAMAT”. The big stone as big as car was land on Carita beach, and many prisoners was killed by blasted lighting at Tanjung Layar light house (Ujung Kulon) and the light house was destroyed as well. It was reported later.

Forty years after the main explosion, in 1927, volcanic activity was seen in the sea covering the old caldera, between the sites of the two northern most  former volcanoes of Krakatau, where the greatest activity had occurred at the time of the cataclysm. A series of eruptions 185 m below the surface of the sea resulted in the emergence of  tree new island, one after the other. They were all soon destroyed by surf. A fourth emerged from the sea on August 12^th 1930. It remained above water, and was aptly named Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatau).

It grew by the accumulation of ash, and suffered a devastating eruption in 1952, and another very destructive one in 1972. It is now 195 m high and 2 km in diameter, and is still active. The northeast coast, north foreland and east foreland are now vegetated; the succession of vegetation is still at an early stage, Casuarina equisetifolia Cemara being the dominant tree.

KRAKATAU VOLCANO via CARITA

START/FINISH: JAKARTA
GRADE: EASY – MODERATE

Day 01 : CARITA – ANAK KRAKATOA – LEGON CABE – CARITA
Early morning at 06:30am start from Jakarta to Carita via Cilegon, Anyer and Karang Bolong. Arrive approximately 09:30am, then we will use speedboat to sail to Krakatau natural preserve. With the “double twin engine Yamaha Enduro 40 PK” speed boat we will approximately arrive in Krakatau island about 1,5 – 2 hour depends on wave condition on Sunda strait. Anchored near Anak Krakatau beach where we will take lunch in pine forest area before trekking to peak. If peak of Anak Krakatau is not in conducive circumstance, then we will only able to trekk to Patok (post) II before the ridge (safe limits that’s have been set by ranger or KSDA officer) to take a picture and go back down.

From Anak Krakatau we sail towards the Legon Cabe area, on the Big Krakatoa / Rakata Island. There we can do snorkeling and enjoy the reef with variety of fish around it. After that, at around 2.30.pm sailing back to Carita and continue driving back to Jakarta. - end program - (L)

Day 01: JAKARTA – CARITA – ANAK KRAKATOA – SERTUNG ISLAND
Early morning at 06:30am start from Jakarta to Carita via Cilegon, Anyer and Karang Bolong. Arrive approximately 09:30am, then we will use speedboat to sail to Krakatau natural preserve. Ascend to the summit of Anak Krakatoa, and then sail to Sertung Island.  Free program, we can observe the activities of workers surveyed by volcanic activity there. Dinner and overnight at here. (L,D)

Day 02: SERTUNG ISLAND – LEGON CABE – CARITA – JAKARTA
Around 08.am in the morning after breakfast. We will start sailing accros the island of Anak Krakatoa towards Legon Cabe bay in  Big Krakatau / Rakata  Island. In the Legon Cabe, you can do snorkeling to enjoy the view of Indonesian corals surrounded by variety of fish. Around 10.am afterwards, we will sail back to Carita beach, and continue to go back to Jakarta. - end program - (B)

Suggest: If you interest to go to Krakatau/tour to krakatau please only use the good boat or double engine boat cause if  one engine has trouble we still have other engine safe.
