LAGUNDRI-INDICATORS NIAS ISLAND User Rating 4/5 : four star Type : Reef Reliability : very consistent Best Swell : SW, Offshore Wind : N Duration: BY REQUEST Grade: CHALLENGE Lagundri-Indicators in Nias, Hinako island is an exposed reef break that has very consistent surf. May – Oct (dry season) is the favored time of year for waves. Ideal winds are from the north. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the ideal angle is from southwest. There is a right hand reef break. Best around high tide when the tide is rising. Relatively few surfers here, even on good days. Take care of rocks in the line up. As the name says, Indicators gives you a reasonably good idea when the waves and sets are running into the bay and are going to break on the main break. A 250m paddle to the right of the “keyhole”, this wave peels down a near straight line of shallow reef. Surfed on a rising tide and clean conditions the wave can generate intense tube rides of over 10 seconds. A Short leg rope is recommended as is helmet booties and rubber for protection. Way out the back to the right of the Point is a heavy, current affected, hollow right-hand reef break that's often more exposed to winds. On lower tides this is a dangerous spot, but whatever the conditions, it's for the experienced only. On high tide it is more makeable but still for hell-men.
