MERU BETIRI JUNGLE TREKKING AND IJEN VOLCANO Duration: 09 DAYS / 08 NIGHTS START/FINISH: BALI GRADE: MODERATE - CHALENGING Day 01 : BALI – GILIMANUK – KETAPANG – BANYUWANGI – JEMBER We will pick you up at I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport Bali or at hotel where you stay at 9.00am. And by private car, we depart to Gilimanuk ferry port to cross to Ketapang port Banyuwangi, Jawa Island. After arrive in Banyuwangi, the trip will be continued to Jember city. Lunch will be served en route. Stay overnight at hotel, free program (L,D) Day 02 : JEMBER – AMBULU – ANDONGREJO – BANDEALIT Morning after breakfast, by a private Jeep we drive to Bandealit beach via Ambulu and Andongrejo. After Andongrejo village, we will go through cocoa plantation, a Dutch holdover coffee mills, rubber plantations and communities who are harvesting rubber latex, vegetable gardens, palm trees that lined neatly and tropical rainforests. Along the way we can see the attraction of a type of monkey called a Lutung and sometimes may spot a peacock. Arriving at the gate Bandealit, report to the National Park Merubetiri post before going into Bandealit Guest House for check-in. After lunch we drive to Pringtali, a stunning desert savanna, visiting coconut farmers where we can taste the coconut water. If we come in a right moment, we can also see the harvesting of coffee before heading back to the Guest House. Free program. Enjoy the scenery and beautiful deserted beaches or see Timor Deer and various collections of orchids in the green house located inside the national park. (B,L,D)
Day 03 : BANDEALIT BEACH EXPLOREMorning after breakfast, take a short trekking about 2 hours to the cave or Japan bunker during World War II. Pass through dense oak forests and villages of friendly local people. Then go back to Guest House for lunch. After lunch, we can spend the time enjoying bird watching or canoeing down the river when the water is not receding. (B,L,D) Day 04 : BANDEALIT – SUMBERGADUNG – PATOK 21 – MERU BAY Morning after breakfast, by motorcycle we go Sumbergadung villages, as a starting point for trekking towards Meru Bay. We will cross the smallholder plantation, tropical rain forests where there are several waterfalls. We can see monkeys, honey bird, rangkok bird and hawks and sometimes we may spot the bulls. We walk through uphill terrain to Peg 21, but we still able to observe the flora and fauna during the trekking. Peg 21 is the highest peak along this terrain, after which the field begins declining steadily until in Meru Bay. We can enjoy the view such as some types of shore birds like the albatross that look for prey and some types of coastal vegetation. Meru Bay is a beach along 5 km, which is cleaved by a shallow and quiet stream. We will camp by the river bank. (B,L,D). Day 05 : MERU BAY – PERMISAN BAY While waiting for the morning breakfast, we can do bird watching or enjoying the beach and the crystal clear river estuary with a variety of fish in it. After breakfast, we continue trekking through the mangrove forest, beach forest before entering the wildwood with a pretty clear path. The path will again climb up to top of Tumpak Dawung hill where we will take a break for lunch. Then we will trek downhill through a rocky terrain to Permisan beach. We will set a camp on the river bank in Permisan Bay. There hardly any waves on Eastern part of Permisan beach, so it is a favorite place for visitors to swim or fishing. (B,L,D) Day 06 : PERMISAN BAY – SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACHThe last day of trekking, after breakfast we proceed to walk. There is a quite heavy terrain straight uphill. This tracks so-called 'Japanese way', which was historically built by Romusha for Japanese troop’s military access. Afterwards, the track is decreased and we can see bamboo forest vegetation along the way and cross several small streams. Arriving at the local village where we will ride a truck through the cocoa farm and coconut plantations towards Sukamade Resort to take a rest.
After dinner around 9pm - 12pm we could observe turtles lay their eggs on the beach. Sukamade Beach is a location for turtle egg hatchery of the six species of sea turtles in Indonesia. Green turtles often come up to the white sands of Sukamade beach, and visitors can observe them at night. Stay in Sukamade Guest House. (B,L,D) Day 07 : SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH EXPLOREMorning before breakfast at around 6 am, accompanied by National Parks officials, we can release the young turtles (hatchlings) back to sea. After breakfast we can visit the turtle eggs hatch, doing short trekking around the coastal forests Sukamade or trekking to Green Bay accompanied by National Park ranger. Free time program after lunch, enjoy the natural beauty of the beach Sukamade (B,L,D) Day 08 : SUKAMADE – SARONGAN – JAJAG – LICIN VILLAGEMorning after breakfast, we leave Merubetiri National Park to Banyuwangi by private Jeep via Sarongan and Jajag. Crossing the off-road terrain and crossing several rivers. Stop by at the Sarongan plantation where we could see the chocolate and brown sugar making process before leaving Sukamade beach area. We continue the trip and finish at Banyuwangi where we will stay overnight, free program. (B,L,D)
Day 09 : LICIN – IJEN CRATER – KETAPANG – GILIMANUK – BALI Early morning after breakfast, depart to Paltuding (1800 mtr asl) by 4 wheel-drive. Once arrive in Paltuding, continued to Ijen crater. In Ijen start to explore the crater lake and sulphur mine of Ijen Crater (2400 mtr asl). Finish from Ijen back to hotel, lunch and check-out. After lunch, by privat car proceed towards the Ketapang ferry port, Banyuwangi to cross to Gilimanuk Port, Bali Island. Arrive in Gilimanuk, the trip will continued by passing some beaches in southern Bali and finish in Kuta to stay overnight at hotel. – end program – (B,L)
