ORANGUTAN WILDLIFE AND EXPLORE DAYAK TRIBE I Duration:9 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS START/FINISH: PANGKALAN BUN Grade: MODERATE DAY 01 : PANGKALAN BUN – TANJUNG PUTING Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun airport at 12.00pm, you will be picked up by our local staff and take you to Kumai to board on the boat. The boat is a traditional klotok wooden river boat about 6m by 2m with a roof which forms the upper deck where you can view the rain forest as it glides by. The guide's team includes the boatman, a cook and expert guide. Lunch is served on the way to Tanjung Harapan, a rehabilitation center for orphaned orang utans, 2 hours away from Kumai. Here the playful and friendly baby orang utans are taught the first stages in fending themselves in the jungle. In the peaceful afternoon we will slowly explore the quite river by the klotok while observe the monkeys along the riverside. Dinner and overnight on the boat. Thin mattress, pillow, fine meals, bottled "mineral" water, mosquito net, kitchen, simple toilet available on boat besides the familiar - helpful guides and boatmen. (L,D) DAY 02 : TANJUNG PUTTING - PONDOK TANGUY – CAMP LEAKEY After breakfast board the klotok to travel up river for about 2 hours boating and then up a side creek to Camp Leakey where the older orang utans are reintroduced into the rain forest. En route stop at Pondok Tanguy, the rehabilitation center for the new ex-captive orang utans. At Camp Leakey you will have opportunity to trek into the rain forest with your expert guide and the forestry rangers to appreciate the flora as well as perhaps sighting wild orang utans, gibbons, macaques, and birds. Lunch provided on boat. Afternoon visit the feeding station to see rehabilitate orang utans are given additional foods. We will then sail back down the river to overnight on the boat. (B,L,D) DAY 03 : CAMP LEAKEY After breakfast we make second visit to Camp Leakey for an easy trekking in the different routes around the Camp Leakey for birdwatching and to see the morning "feeding time" for the ex-captive orang utans with opportunity seeing of other animals and exotic fauna. Afternoon visit the feeding station to see rehabilitated orang utans are given additional food then we slowly boating down the river for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D). DAY 04 : ORANGUTAN – KUMAI – PANGKALAN BUN – TAPINBINI VILLAGE Breakfast at the boat and then boating back to Kumai river port. Then taking you to tother side of Pangkalan Bun for boating through Arut river by speedboat. Arut river is another river system, which gives access deeper into the interior of Central Kalimantan, the home of Dayak tribes. Tapinbini is about 6 hours up river Lamandau by speed boat and is one of the Dayak Tumon (or Dayak Lamandau) biggest village. Upon arrival at Tapinbini sight seeing around the village to and make an easy climbing to their traditional/slash and burn plantations nearby the village. Overnight at the simple house. (B,L,D) DAY 05 : TAPINBINI – KINIPAN VILLAGE Breakfast on the local house, then prepare for the sail up river. We will need almost full day of boating to the Kinipan village. Depend on the water level of the river. Along the way is the breathtaking surrounding view of the virgin rain forest, challenging rapid, nice place for shelter on the river bank, and occasionally meet the local Dayak on the river. Lunch will be serve onthe river bank, just under the shade of the trees. Arrival in the afternoon. Overnight on the local long house. In the night time, a traditional dance will be held for your team. (B,L,D) DAY 06 : EXPLORING KINIPAN AND THE DOMAIN OF DAYAK DELANG We will one day to explore the surrounding area of Kinipan village. There are some trails leading to the hinterland to the local farm land, other compound of the Dayak. This will be the great chance to learn and to understand the way of life and the culture of the hinterland of Dayak. We will overnight on the lolca house for better stay. (B,L,D) DAY 07 : KINIPAN – TAPINBINI Today is another full day ride down river to Tapinbini passing the same river. Overnight at Tapinbini. (B,L,D) DAY 08 : TAPINBINI – PANGKALAN BUN In the morning we sail back by speedboat to Pangkalan Bun. The journey down stream is much faster then up through the rapids but takes most of the day as we will stop at Bakonsu village, another Dayak village where you can see the ancient graves and long house as well as some remnants from the Dayak head hunting age. Stop will also be made in Kotawaringin for lunch and for visiting an old mosque and the remain of Sultan (a Malayan king) palace and its collection. Late afternoon arrive Pangkalan Bun, direct transfer to Blue Kecubung hotel for accommodation. (B,L) DAY 09 : DEPARTURE Free and flexible morning program before transfer to the airport for your flight to your next destination. Trekking through tropical rainforest searching for wildlife, wild orang utan, birds and other primate as well as tropical jungle plant. Back to the boat for lunch then witness feeding time at 14.00 pm for old rehabilitation orang utan given additional foods. Overnight on the boat. (B,L,D) DAY 3 : PARK – PONDOK TANGUY – PESALAT – PANGKALAN BUN After breakfast board the klotok to travel up the river for Pondok Tanguy, the rehabilitation center for the new ex-captive orang utans, see feeding time at 09.00am. continuing the trip to Pesalat replantation camp, See the process of replantation project or take this opportunity to hike at forest. we could visit village near by the park before proceed to boating down the river back to Kumai and Pangkalan Bun. Overnight at hotel Pangkalan Bun (B,L,D) DAY 4 : PARK – KUMAI – PANGKALAN BUN – BAYAT DAYAK VILLAGE After breakfast, straight to the speed boat harbor. Please covered your valuable things with dry bags and put suntan lotion for sun protection. We recommend also bring soft ear plugs as the sounds of speed boat is so noisy. You will be boarding your speed boat on the Arut river before change to the Lamandau river and Balantikan river. On the way you will pass some villages, logging company, and rapids. You will stop for lunch on the way. Upon arrival at Bayat village after 5 hours drive, Bayat is one between other semi modern Dayak village and also our starting point to the deep forest of Borneo. Dinner and overnight at villager house. (B,L,D) DAY 5 : BAYAT VILLAGE – KAHINGAI VILLAGE Breakfast at, then boat up the river by motorized canoe for almost one day ride. In the way up is the breathtaking souronding view of some traditional Dayak village and rainforest, challenching rapid. Lunch will be serve on the route. Afternoon arrive Kahingai and overnight at villager house. (B,L,D) DAY 6 : KAHINGAI – MOVING PLANTATION After breakfast, one day exploring the urrounding area of Kahingai, following the trails up of the hill accompanied with our local expert to learn their live such as hunting, set the trap, collecting the rottan and any other local peoples activities. Lunch will cook as their way of cooking. Overnight in the forest with tent. (B,L,D) DAY 7 : MOVING PLANTATION – KAHINGAI VILLAGE Take morning opportunity to sorounding the forest then proceed to get back to Kahingai village overnight at village house. (B,L,D) DAY 8 : KAHINGAI – BAYAT – BAKONSU VILLAGE Morning breakfast then boat down the river to Bayat village and proceed by speed boat to take other different river to Bakonsu village. After dinner, they will ringing their gong or one of their music instrument to gathering together for this Horn Bill dancing party. Lots of people will join and you will be welcome like a king & queen. (B,L,D) DAY 9 : BAKONSU – PANGKALAN BUN Morning breakfast sightseeing around the village observe of the remain of head hunting expedition age then boat down following the stream to Pangkalan Bun. Having farewell dinner with all the crew. Dinner and overnight at Pangkalan Bun hotel. (B,L,D) DAY 10 : DEPARTURE Breakfast at the hotel until time to transfer to the airport for next destination.
